Scots Pine as a Resource

Online information about Scots pine

The project is publishing a technical review of Scots pine, describing its properties and suitability to different uses. The key findings of the review have been published as web pages

Markets for Scots pine in Northern Europe

The Norwegian Forest and Landscape Institute has published a booklet 'Markets for Scots Pine Roundwood' which provides an overview of the market situation for Scots pine in Scotland, Sweden, Finland and Norway.

'Working together'

A key objective of the project is encouraging greater collaboration between businesses in the forestry sector. In the Scottish forestry sector instances of collaboration are limited particularly compared to Northern European countries. We have published a collaboration report  that looks at:

  • Good practice
  • Relevance of collaboration in the future
  • Common issues and solutions
  • Opportunities in the forestry sector
  • Key features of successful collaboration

The report includes case studies from Scotland, Sweden, Norway and Finland and also examples from other sectors such as food and agriculture where collaboration is more commonly practiced.

Permeability study

The Norwegian Forest and Landscape Institute is conducting research on the variation in permeability of Scots pine sapwood in Northern Europe.

Scots pine samples have been collected from over 20 forest sites in Northern Europe including Norway, Sweden, Finland and Scotland and sent to Norway for testing – see a presentation on this project.
